Best interest at heart

Have you heard that story before? From your parents when you were younger? Maybe from your dearest friend? Blah, blah, blah...Telling you not what you WANT to hear, but what you NEED to hear? Yeah, been there, done that. I am sure we all have. It can be difficult when someone calls us to the table on things and maybe even throws our own words back at us, if the situation was reveresed. We can be angry and frustrated right then, but eventually we accept and forgive them. I remember when someone completely ingnored the words I was saying because she was concerned for my safety. I was being selfish in my regard to knowing that I could handle it all. I didn't want to admit it, but I was probably scared and went into defense mode without really thinking about it. Sometimes, we need people to keep us accountable and make sure that we are not getting ahead of ourselves or not forgetting about what really matters. We all get caught up in moments from time to time and we just need a little check and balance. We may not know it at the time, but they do what they do because they care. Even when we don't agree with it...even when we don't like it...even if it makes us figure it out on our own. When you are confronted with situations like this, do you attack others in an aggressive manner or share with them how you are worried. All of the worrying in the world doesn't change anything. Letting go of trying to help too much is the only way of allowing others learn what they have to learn. When we don't allow others to struggle, they don't grow. Babies won't learn to walk if we carry them all the time. It is hard to watch people we love fall and get hurt, but we have to let them go. It doesn't make it easy...it makes it necessary. If they know that you have their best interest at heart, they will always forgive you because you love them.

When we fall...

This comes to us all from time to time. When we fall short or just stumble for a little bit. Then there are those times when we feel that we have fallen so far that there is no way we could ever get back up. We are afraid to reach, thinking someone else will not be there to grab our hand and pull us up the rest of the way. I hesitated about posting something on this subject, but also came to realize that this is a part of life as much as anything else. As hard as we try, we will fail. As hard as we try, we will also succeed. We all wish that everything could be happy, fun, and great all the time. But it does not always work that way. We are sad and gloomy sometimes. Situations and people upset us and make us feel different emotions. Sometimes, we don't know why. Sometimes, we know exactly why and sharing that with someone else seems to make it better. Quiet time and space seems to work for me during certain situations. I take a break and eventually the "storm" works itself out. Eventually we pick ourselves back up and carry on as if that temporary set back never happened. I am not very good at letting others see me when I fall, and sometimes that hurts more than the fall itself. No one wants to feel dumb for being vulnerable. NO ONE. But we also need to understand that we all do it and we all need time to reassess and move on. Being there to listen is always the best thing someone can do for someone else. You may not say the right things, but knowing that you are there, just in case, can mean the world. It is easy to stay down, but takes courage and strength to use that to propel you up again. I learn alot about myself when times like this come and it gives me a little reality check. Reality is that we all fall. And we all have the choice to do what comes next...stay there or get back up again. I chose the latter.

When Things Fall Apart

We have all felt that way, at one time in our lives. When even with the best intentions, things go wrong and we are unsure of how to fix them. Sometimes, there are words that cannot be unspoken or deeds cannot be undone. Other times, time is not on your side and you will never be able to make amends. Situations happen that are out of your control or you have let them get so much out of control that now going back is out of the question. What happens next? What do you say when you are in front of that person again? How do you make it better? What happens if you doing the best you can to rectify this issue only makes it worse? What if you do nothing? We keep trying!! We do everything we know until our hands are raw with the emotion they carry and our hearts are done bleeding because there is nothing more. We do what we think is right even if it turns out wrong. Things fall apart all the time in life - it is inevitable. How we deal with those times determines what goes on from there. We pick up the pieces and move on. It may not be the way it was before, but it just might be the little wake up call you needed to get a grasp on what matters most. Usually, when we are down, we have others right beside us waiting for that moment when we can help you stand back up again. We will help carry the load and be there when you need our help. Don't be afraid to ask for it. Nothing ever stays the same, anyway. Things falling apart and being put back together are bound to happen. Welcome to life.
